I, as usual, cannot believe that summer is
officially over. Our camps and activities went
well and now that children are heading back to
school, it is my hope that they made some fond
memories and are ready to move ahead. Speaking
of "hope," as those of you who read my emails
already know, I took advantage of the happenings
of the Democratic National Convention. Because
of my background, and continued interest in
Education, I attended the Education round table.
I continue to be frustrated because it seems
that the "experts" know a lot about what works,
but we are still waiting for revolutionary
things to happen. (25 years later) Laurie and I
also attended a presentation by NPR (National
Public Radio), saw Joe Biden at Writer's Square
(unplanned), and, yes, were lucky enough to get
tickets to the Obama speech at Invesco. After
waiting 3 hours in the parking lot in a line
that curved around and around, but seemed to get
nowhere, we made it in at the end of Al Gore's
speech. The energy was contagious and big screen
televisions allowed us to see what was going
on. Being easily distracted, I missed some of
the details, but the speech was amazing. When I
got home I watched it again as MSNBC replayed
it. I also tivoed it so I am covered. I, as a
small store owner, would not ordinarily share
my affiliation, but this year is different.
Only one other time in my lifetime have I been
this energized and inspired. That was during the
JFK election. I will be helping with voter
registration at retirement communities. If you
know of a center that you would like me to go
to, please let me know. Whether you are a
Democrat, Republican, or Other, do not miss this
opportunity to get involved, contribute time and
energy, care. You can make a difference, just as
you all make a difference to me. Thank you for
your continued support. I have the best
customers.
Magically
Yours;

If You See
a Pig...
Many of you, especially children, have noticed
the piggy bank on the counter. It is there to
collect your change for
Families First.
Families First
is a non-profit that cares for children from
abusive homes. The thing that sets them apart is
that they work with the families, teaching
parenting skills, in hopes that the children can
be re-introduced to their birth families. So, if
you see a pig on the counter and have some extra
change, we would appreciate your donation.
(I am their historian.) |
|
As teachers we must believe in change, must know
it is possible, or we wouldn't be
teaching-because education is a constant process
of change. Every single time you "teach"
something to someone, it is ingested, something
is done
with it, and a new human being emerges.
